Questions we actually get asked

If yours isn't here, call (845) 949-0017 and ask — we'd rather answer it than have you guess.

Answers

Everything, in one place

What areas does Sparrow Floor Care serve?

We're based in Montgomery, NY and serve Orange County and the surrounding Hudson Valley, including Walden, Maybrook, Campbell Hall, Wallkill, Pine Bush, Newburgh, New Windsor, Washingtonville, Middletown and Goshen.

Are your cleaning solutions safe for children and pets?

Yes. We use low-residue solutions and rinse thoroughly, so there's no soapy film left behind for paws or hands. Tell us about specific sensitivities when booking and we'll match the chemistry.

How soon can you come out?

Often within the same week, and sometimes same-day for smaller spot work near Montgomery. Call (845) 949-0017 and we'll give you a real answer rather than a placeholder.

Do you give quotes over the phone?

We give honest ranges over the phone, then confirm on site. Two homes with the same room count can be very different jobs, and we'd rather be accurate than cheap-sounding.

What payment methods do you accept?

Call and we'll confirm current options for your job. Pricing is agreed before we start — no surprises on completion.

Do I need to move my furniture?

No. We move reasonable furniture as part of the job and clean around anything very heavy or fragile. Clearing small items and breakables off surfaces beforehand helps us work faster.

Is there a new-customer discount?

Yes — $50 off your first service. New customers only, one per household, and it isn't combined with other discounts.

How long does carpet take to dry after cleaning?

Typically 4 to 6 hours. Airflow matters more than anything else, so we groom the pile and place air movers in closed or humid rooms. You can walk on it right away in clean socks.

Will cleaning make my carpet get dirty faster?

Not with extraction. That reputation comes from shampoo methods that leave sticky residue behind. We rinse and extract, so there's no soap film left to attract soil.

Can you clean our office without closing it?

Yes. Encapsulation dries in roughly 1–2 hours and we schedule after hours, so a normal office is fully usable by the next morning.

What's the difference between encapsulation and steam cleaning?

Encapsulation is a low-moisture maintenance clean that dries fast and suits frequent intervals. Hot-water extraction removes far more soil but needs longer to dry. Most commercial spaces do best with encapsulation on a schedule plus periodic extraction.

Why does my grout look dirty right after I mop?

Because mopping mostly redistributes dirty water into the grout's pores — grout sits lower than the tile and is porous, so it collects what the mop pushes around. Pressurised extraction removes it instead of moving it.

Will cleaning make my grout look new again?

Usually much closer than people expect, but grout that is permanently stained or has eroded won't return to original colour by cleaning alone. Colour-sealing is the option there, and we'll say so honestly upfront.

How often does VCT need stripping?

A well-maintained floor on a scrub-and-recoat programme may go 2–4 years between full strips. Without that programme, most floors need stripping annually — which costs more over time.

Can you do it without closing our business?

Almost always. We schedule overnight or across a weekend. Light traffic is fine about 8 hours after the last coat, with full cure over the following day or two.

Can you make my worn hardwood look new?

Cleaning removes film and restores real lustre, and the difference surprises most people. But if the finish has worn through to bare wood, that needs sanding and refinishing — a different trade, and we'll tell you plainly rather than sell you a clean that won't fix it.

Is steam cleaning safe for LVP or hardwood?

No, and we don't do it. Steam forces moisture and heat into seams, which can lift LVP edges and swell wood. Low-moisture is the correct approach on both.

Can you clean a wool rug?

Yes, and wool needs specific handling — neutral pH and controlled moisture. High-alkaline products and aggressive heat are what cause wool to brown or lose dye stability.

What does the code on my sofa tag mean?

W means water-based cleaning is safe, S means solvent only, WS means either, and X means vacuum only. We always check before choosing a method.

Why does the pet smell come back when it rains?

Because urine salts are hygroscopic — they draw moisture from humid air and reactivate the odour. Any treatment that only masked the smell will fail on the first humid day. Neutralising the salts is the only durable fix.

Can you get pet urine out completely?

It depends entirely on depth. Fresh surface accidents usually clear fully. Once it has soaked the pad or reached the subfloor, treatment improves it substantially but complete removal may require replacing the pad or sealing the subfloor. We give you the honest assessment first.

Ready for floors you're proud of?

Tell us about the job and we'll give you an honest answer — usually same day.
