VCT Strip & Wax in Orange County, NY

Strip old, yellowed finish and lay multiple coats of high-solids wax for a durable mirror gloss.

How we do it

  1. Protect & prep

Baseboards and transitions get protected, furniture is moved out, and the floor is swept and vacuumed.

  2. Strip

Stripper dwells, then a low-speed machine with the right pad breaks the old finish loose — including the yellowed layers in the corners everyone skips.

  3. Rinse & neutralise

Residual stripper is picked up and the tile is neutralised. Skipping this is why some floors go cloudy weeks later.

  4. Finish coats

Thin, even coats with proper flash time between each. Rushing coats is what causes powdering and streaks.

  5. Burnish

Once cured, burnishing brings up the gloss and hardens the surface.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

How often does VCT need stripping?

A well-maintained floor on a scrub-and-recoat programme may go 2–4 years between full strips. Without that programme, most floors need stripping annually — which costs more over time.

Can you do it without closing our business?

Almost always. We schedule overnight or across a weekend. Light traffic is fine about 8 hours after the last coat, with full cure over the following day or two.

Why is my floor yellow in the corners?

Old finish builds up where machines don't reach and mops deposit extra product. It oxidises and yellows. A proper strip includes hand-detailing those edges.
